These Terms of Use are a binding agreement between you and Nova Spes LLC, a Texas limited liability company doing business as Urtext. They govern your access to and use of the Urtext iOS application and website. By downloading, accessing, or using Urtext, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use Urtext on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, and as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or sublicense any part of the app or its content.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.
Urtext offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions, currently Urtext+ and Urtext Scholar, that unlock premium features including additional Bible translations, audio narration, and AI-powered study tools. Urtext also offers consumable AI credit packs. Current tiers and prices are shown in the App Store listing and in the app.
Subscriptions. Billed through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Your subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change with notice.
AI credit packs. Consumable in-app purchases. Credits are consumed as you use AI features, have no cash value, are not transferable or exchangeable, and cannot be redeemed for money. Unused credits are forfeited when your account is deleted.
Refunds. All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. To request a refund, contact Apple. Nothing in these terms limits any non-waivable statutory right you may have.
The Ask feature and Pray with Ara use a third-party AI model to generate responses. “Ara” is an AI assistant. Ara is not a real person, minister, counselor, or professional of any kind. AI responses are generated automatically and may not always be accurate, complete, or theologically authoritative. Always verify important theological questions against Scripture and trusted sources.
Before you first use an AI feature, we ask for your consent to transmit what you type to our AI provider. You can withdraw that consent at any time in Edit Profile, which disables the AI features.
AI-generated content is provided for spiritual encouragement and study only. It is not advice, instruction, or direction to take any action, and you should not treat it as such. YOU ALONE are responsible for your own decisions, choices, and actions. Urtext, Nova Spes LLC, and Ara are not responsible or liable for any decision you make or action you take based on AI-generated content, and nothing generated by Ara authorizes, instructs, or excuses any unlawful or harmful act.
Ara is designed to decline requests for directions, plans, or advice, and to decline to pray for anything unlawful or harmful to another person. These are design safeguards, not guarantees. AI systems can behave unpredictably, and you should not rely on them as a substitute for your own judgment.
Pray with Ara and the Prayer Journal are offered for spiritual encouragement and personal devotion. They are not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, financial, or crisis care, and Ara does not provide any such advice.
If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself, or someone is in danger, contact emergency services immediately. In the United States and Canada, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline). Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number or a local crisis line; a directory is available at findahelpline.com. Urtext is not an emergency service, does not monitor your prayers or journal entries, and cannot respond to emergencies.
A prayer generated by Ara is a prayer. It is never an instruction to do anything, and you must not act on it as direction. You are solely responsible for your own conduct.
You understand that AI-generated spiritual content is experimental, that it may produce output that is inaccurate, inappropriate, or upsetting, and that using these features while in emotional distress carries risk. You knowingly and voluntarily assume all risk arising from your use of the AI features. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release Nova Spes LLC and its officers, members, employees, and contractors from any claim, demand, or cause of action arising from your use of, or reliance on, AI-generated content.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Nova Spes LLC and its officers, members, employees, and contractors from and against any claim, liability, damage, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or connected with your use of the app, your User Content, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
The King James Version (KJV) is in the public domain in the United States. The World English Bible (WEB) is in the public domain. The Literal Standard Version (LSV) is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license (CC BY-SA), with attribution to Covenant Press and the Covenant Christian Coalition. The New Living Translation (NLT) is accessed via API.Bible under their licensing agreements with Tyndale House Publishers. All original Urtext content is proprietary and may not be reproduced without written permission.
My Circle lets you share messages, prayer requests, reflections, and studies with people you invite. You are solely responsible for the content you post. You retain ownership of your content and grant us a limited license to host, store, and transmit it for the purpose of operating the feature, and you grant the other members of your circle permission to view it.
There is zero tolerance for objectionable, abusive, harassing, hateful, or illegal content, or for abusive behavior toward other members. You agree not to post such content. Every post includes a Report option, and you can Block any member so you no longer see their content. Reported content is hidden pending review. We remove violating content and remove or ban offending users within 24 hours of a report. By using My Circle you consent to this moderation.
Repeat infringers. We will terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe the copyrights of others, and of users who repeatedly violate these terms.
You may permanently delete your account at any time from the You tab. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated data, including your My Circle posts, from our systems within 30 days. Data stored locally on your device is removed when you uninstall the app.
Urtext is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. Spiritual content is provided for educational and devotional purposes and does not constitute professional religious counseling. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nova Spes LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the app shall not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars.
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account at our discretion if you violate these terms. You may terminate your account at any time through the You tab. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including Assumption of Risk and Release, Indemnification, Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law, survive.
The following applies to the version of Urtext obtained through the Apple App Store:
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. The exclusive venue for any dispute is the state and federal courts located in the State of Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of their country of residence.
Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.
Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Copyright and Content page, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Urtext.
Assignment. You may not assign these terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
Notices. We may provide notice to you through the app or at the email address associated with your account. You may provide notice to us at the contact below.
Changes. We may update these terms and will notify you of material changes through the app or via email before they take effect.
