Urtext is operated by Nova Spes LLC, a Texas limited liability company doing business as Urtext (“Nova Spes,” “Urtext,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). Nova Spes LLC is the data controller for the information described in this policy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard information when you use the Urtext iOS application and website.

Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. You may also sign in via Apple or Google, in which case we receive only what those services provide, typically an identifier and, optionally, your email.
Profile and Preferences (optional). In the User Info section of the You tab you may optionally provide an email address, your birthday, a profile photo, and your notification and email preferences. Your birthday is limited to month and day only. We never collect the year. All of these fields are optional, you control them, and you can change or clear them at any time.
AI Feature Input (Ask and Pray with Ara). When you use the Ask feature or Pray with Ara, the text you type, including any prayer request you share, is transmitted to our third-party AI provider to generate a response. Text sent for audio narration is transmitted to the same provider’s text-to-speech service. We do not store the content of your questions or prayer requests on our servers. See Sensitive Information below.
My Circle Content. If you use My Circle, the messages, prayer requests, reflections, and studies you post, along with your invitations and circle membership, are stored on our servers so they can be delivered to the people you invited. This content is visible to other members of your circle.
Reading and Study Data. Your bookmarks, highlights, notes, and reading history are stored locally on your device by default. Prayers you write in your personal Prayer Journal, and prayers Ara prays with you, are saved locally on your device and are protected by Face ID / Touch ID. They are not stored on our servers unless you enable cloud sync in a future update, in which case they would be stored encrypted in our database.
Usage Data. We collect anonymous analytics about how features are used, such as which books are read, how long sessions last, and which study tools are opened. This data is not linked to your account identity.
Purchase and Subscription Data. When you purchase a subscription or AI credit pack, we record your entitlement status and purchase history so the app knows which features to unlock and how many credits remain. Payment is processed entirely by Apple; no card or payment details ever reach our servers.
Device Information. We collect your iOS version, device model, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.
Prayer requests, prayer journal entries, and content you post in My Circle may reveal your religious or philosophical beliefs, and may also reveal information about your health, mental health, or personal circumstances. We treat this as sensitive information and handle it more carefully than ordinary account data.
We process this information only with your explicit consent, which we request in the app before your first use of an AI feature and which you can withdraw at any time in Edit Profile. If you withdraw consent, the AI features stop transmitting your input to our AI provider. We do not use this information for any purpose other than delivering the feature you asked for. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we never sell or share it for advertising.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your data for advertising of any kind.
We are based in the United States and our service providers process data in the United States. Urtext is not offered in European Union or European Economic Area App Store territories.
Supabase. We use Supabase for authentication and database services. Your email, account metadata, and My Circle content are stored on Supabase’s servers, accessed via their REST API over encrypted connections.
AI provider (Grok). Text you submit through the Ask feature, text you submit through Pray with Ara including prayer requests, and text sent for audio narration are transmitted to and processed by SpaceXAI (Grok). That provider’s privacy policy governs their handling of this data, and we recommend reviewing it at x.ai.
Apple and Google Sign-In. If you use social sign-in, Apple’s and Google’s respective privacy policies apply to the authentication flow.
Apple App Store. Subscriptions and in-app purchases are managed natively through the App Store. No payment details are transmitted to Urtext servers.
Firebase Crashlytics. We use Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to collect crash reports, including device model, iOS version, app version, and a stack trace. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports.
Urtext is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 16, contact us at legal@urtextbible.com and we will delete it.
We use encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Prayer journal entries stored on your device are protected by Face ID or your device passcode. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We offer the following to every Urtext user, regardless of where you live. You may access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy of it, and withdraw any consent you have given. To do any of these, use the account controls in the You tab or email legal@urtextbible.com. We will verify your identity before acting, normally by confirming control of the email address associated with your account, and we will respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Where a change requires your consent, we will ask for it rather than relying on continued use.
